    must-have walkaround lens

Have been using this lens for over 6 years now, on both FX (F75) and DX (D80) cameras. Excellent for available light photography; pleasing bokeh.
    Overall: excellent value for money
    nb:
    1. will not autofocus with newer Nikon DX bodies which do not have AF screw in the camera body.
    2. in DX format, effective focal length is 75mm

    Excellent lens for the price

This is an excellent lens for the price; the only caveat being that it cannot AF with camera's without a servo. Even then you could use it well with MF and for macros (see last paragraph)

Excellent for portraits especially on an APS-C sensor.

If you are into macro photography, it is one of the best lens to reverse mount on your camera using a 200/- reverse ring. The results are excellent. The fact that it is a D (not G) lens, gives you the manual aperture ring which helps with reverse mount...

    Great lens with great bokeh

This is a great nifty fifty lens from Nikon. The sharpest aperture this lens offers is at 2.0-2.8.
This lens has a great bokeh. You will definitely appreciate the pictures it takes.
This lens doesn't have any AF motor. So it works with auto focus on cameras which have AF motor like D7000.
But if you have cameras like D3000, D3100,D3200, D5100, D5200, you should buy the 1.8 G lens (G lenses have auto focus motor in built in lens).
Since it is an FX lens, therefore on DX crop sensor its resulta...

Make it your first prime lens

Cons : No lens motor (SWM), so forget autofocus for cameras below D7000 range(Cameras without motors). No VR or image stabilization. Aperture is adjusted most probably in your Nikon DSLR so you have to keep it at the locked at F/22

Pros: Works perfectly well in low lighting, thing is you have to make a bit of effort to keep your camera stable. For 6k, it's perhaps the best buy. With a shallow DoF, the portrait would come inspiring if you have the luxury of time..

    Cheers!!

    A must have lens...

    Lens:
Bought this for my Nikon D3100,Looks peppy on the camera. Auto-focus will not work with D3100,but can do better job with Manual-focus alone.Worth more than expected.Good for low light conditions (large aperture f1.8) and esp..portrait snaps.

    Flipkart:

worth every penny( in this case rupees)

First of a warning to D3000, D5000, D60 and D40 series user. This lens won't auto focus with the camera mentioned before. However if you are into still and portrait, you can get good pics with it using manual focus. Having a f/1.8 aperture, this lens work well in low light condition. If you need help with manual focus, use the range finder option in your dslr, however range finder only works in A or P mode. In M mode you have to rely on the focus light in your viewfinder which can be annoying...

Review on Nikon 50 mm 1.8D

This is a lovely lens which I was looking for. Performing extremely well in low light condition and it's very fast. Currently I am using it with D40 in manual focus but the performance and quality is very good.

About Flipkart, delivered perfectly on time and in good condition.

Q:which was the better, 1.8D or 1.8G?? please help
A:You just have to have an additional motor in your camera for the autofocus to work on the 1.8D lens. Autofocus works on models including D7000 and above. THE RESULTS ARE THE SAME FOR BOTH LENSES.
