Ideal for entry level digital SLR users, the D5000 is the newest addition in the DX-format digital SLR family of Nikon. Powered by EXPEED image processing system, this SLR camera has an integrated Dust Reduction System. The camera has a 12.3 megapixel Nikon DX format CMOS image sensor, with the dimension of 23.6 x 15.8 mm. D5000 supports 3:2 aspect ratio and has Active D-Lighting feature for smooth tone reproduction.

Body

The D5000 DSLR camera weighs 560 g and has dimension of 127 x 104 x 80 mm. The digital camera has Eye-level Penta-Dach mirror. The low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD has Vari-angle monitor, which can swing down 90 degrees and rotate 180 degrees. The display size is 2.7-inch and has resolution of 230,000 dot pixel. User can add external memory to this Nikon camera using the SD and SDHC memory card. The rechargeable EN-EL9a Li-ion battery can take up to 510 shots.

Performance

This Nikon digital SLR camera has a zoom lens with the focal length of 18 mm - 55 mm and has Aperture range of F/3.5-5.6. The D5000 has optical zoom of 3x and can mount Nikon F lenses. The TTL phase detection Auto Focus uses Nikon Multi-CAM 1000 Auto Focus module and has 11 focusing points. Various focusing modes include Autofocus (AF), Single-servo AF, Continuous servo AF, Auto AF-S/AF-C selection and Manual focus.

This Nikon camera has sensitivity ranging from ISO 200 to 3200 and can be further expanded up to ISO 6400 (HI-1). This DSLR camera has a built-in pop-up Flash with Nikon's original i-TTL flash control and has range of 17 m.

Features and Connectivity

The D5000 has 19 Scene Modes, which can automatically select the correct exposure, image processing, and many other such settings. The Scene Recognition System also helps in taking better quality pictures. Other additional features include Vibration Reduction, Aspherical lens, and Silent Wave Motor, in-camera red-eye removal, Histogram display, and LCD live view mode, etc.

This digital SLR camera is capable of shooting HD videos at resolution of 1280 x 720, 24 fps. The D5000 supports AVI movie format and NEF, and JPEG image format. The camera has Face recognition feature and Self timer of 2, 5, 10 or 20 sec duration. Continuous shot mode allows users to shoot at 4 fps. The connectivity options available in the Nikon D5000 include USB 2.0 and HDMI output.
