    Description

Not Just an Accountant: The Diary of the Nation’s Conscience Keeper is the autobiography of India’s eleventh comptroller and auditor general and the man who is regarded as the symbol of the anti-corruption movement, Vinod Rai.

    Summary of the Book

This autobiography offers a rich-in-anecdote narrative and inside information as Rai talks about the major scams that shocked the entire nation. It discusses the procedural inconsistencies in the issuance of licenses for second generation spectrum allotment, the last-minute quick-fixes in the conduct of the XIX commonwealth games, the loss of national resources during the allocation of coal blocks, the violation of systems and the clear display of familiar capitalism in the exploration of hydrocarbon and the sad story of civil aviation in India. Rai not only exposes government’s failures and controversies, but also delves into the mandate of the CAG as an ardent watchdog. Also, he focusses on long-term solutions to corruption in the country. He talks about the urgent need for ethics - the pursuit of excellence, accountability, probity and transparency within the governments, the bureaucracy, corporate enterprises, and even public life.

    About Vinod Rai

Vinod Rai has served as the comptroller and auditor general of India. He has been revered for bringing about a paradigm change in the areas. The systems and qualitative upgrades that he introduced have been highly commended and endorsed within the country and globally, bringing worldwide compliment to the institution of the CAG of India. Rai also has vast experiences in the civil services and has served more than three decades in different capacities at the regional and federal level. He has also left an enduring mark on the financial sector of the nation. Rai currently lives in New Delhi.

    When CAG removes GAG...........!

It is simple & easy read, still you can feel genuineness of writer for betterment of nation, efforts for cleaning political system & lessons and advice to bureaucrats. Book describes the details of 2G ,Coalgate, CWG & other scams which disturbed every sensible citizen of India. For critics: 44 pages of appendix containing correspondence between PM & A Raja, Dayanidhi Maran & letters from CAG. CAG demonstrated; a simple act of auditing with 'open eye' becomes " Third eye of Lord Shiva" & an...

Its Awakening moment to all Indians. Mr. Vinod Rai you are awesome.

Its a book for "the" one who wants to put India first. For a trailer of this book one should watch Arnab's newshour debate which went on air on 11-Sep-2014. Simply Superb. It cannot be rated no iota less than 5. I am a Chartered Accountant and this book excited me like anything. One should be strong enough to be bold like Vinod Rai. He is to be called "the Auditor". Jai Hind.

    Government's Auditor!

Couple of books came around the same time this book was released in the 1st half of 2014 written by Indian bureaucrats. This one by Vinod Rai, the Comptroller and Auditor General is by far the best on the role of the CAG as envisioned by the constitution as one of India's towering institutions versus the elected executive towards providing an effective, efficient & an accountable Governance system.

He has picked up a bunch of case studies in detail from where he sat & his team conducted the ...

Every UPA leader is equally responsible!!

Thank you Mr. Vinod Rai! Had it not been for your book, most of us would have still believed in the rhetoric that Dr. Manmohan Singh is an honest man in a dishonest party. For now I know that narrative is not true. Dr. Singh was as much informed (and involved?) in the 2G and Coal scams as the D Rajas, Dasari Narayan Rao, Shibu Sorens of the world were. This book explains why India needs to be “Congress Mukt” if it has to grow.
I was reading the “History of Modern India” and “India’s Struggle ...

    Not what i was expecting

I was expecting that vinod rai will be from a different lot than sanjaya baru and parekh saheb, and instead of sensationalizing things and telling us what is we already know, will give his ethical views.. values in civil services, how he dealt with these dilemmas.. His intent was this, and in book we find very little space given for such matter ... hardly last 10-15 lines of every case study... I dont understand ki case study form me likhne ka fayda kya hua, case bana k chod(leave) die, study...
