  • Description
It is the seventh century, a tumultuous time in India. Poised between the last of its empires and the beginning of western invasions, there is an ominous pause in the history of the subcontinent. It is also a time shrouded in mysteries and secrets. A few Buddhist monks have begun to dabble in tantric rituals. Elsewhere, a crucial astronomical discovery has been hushed up. And then follows the event after which there can be no turning back: a student monk from Nalanda - the great seat of ancient learning - stumbles on secrets better left hidden, and cannot be left to tell the tale. A vivid journey into the medieval world of new religions and changing sensibilities,Nothing Is Blue is an unforgettable tale about the cul-de-sacs of history, of pain and memory, of hope and fate.

The book gripped my attention right at the very beginning when a horse-load of manuscripts of Xuanzang, who is returning after his visit to India in the 7th century, are about to be lost forever. This touching tale of a young student at Nalanda is filled with astronomical tidbits, mathematical concepts, historical anecdotes, murder mystery, and a romantic angle--all rolled into a smooth story. Suspense and intrigue of the book kept me glued to it until I finished it and left a lasting impress...

    A historical mystery novel

This is a historical mystery novel set in the ancient university of Nalanda. Xuanzang's much documented visit to Nalanda forms the backdrop of the story. The story unfolds in a time of rapid change for the academia of Nalanda, brought about by the study of Astronomy, Mathematics and a rising undercurrent of Tantric Buddhism. The author, a professional astrophysicist, masterfully combines facts and fiction, historical and imaginary characters in a gripping tale.

The book was an amazing read. ...
