More Nur Jahan than her daughter.

Nur Jahan, a title given by Jahangir to Mehrunnisa after marriage, was a fashion designer, creative in planning gardens and architecture, excellent marksman and an able and ruthless ruler. She ruled the empire by proxy. Ladli adores and worships her mother but could not decide if she loved her for what she was or hated her for marrying the killer of her father and then killing Ladli's lover, leaving no stone unearthed to make Ladli an empress; trampling her emotions.

Every one knows Nur Jah...

One of finest books I've ever read.. and I read a lot!

This review is coming in from a from a big time bibliophile!!
Like many others, I've been smitten by the glory of the Great Mughal Period . I have read some of the finest works and am going to read a lot more...

I always admire books which have the capability to not only "tell" me what's happening but that takes me to that time, makes me a part of it and when it's done I feel as if a part of myself has ended with the book...

And this book is one of those...

In my opinion this is a beau...

master weaver

Podder is a master weaver of words. Her language is lucid, simple and expressive. The embellishment melded with the facts have produced a beautiful weave of words - one that brings to life the era of Mughals in India.
Nurjahan, the crafty empress who rules the country from behind her veil, is an ambitious woman who rules the life of her mousy daughter. The book is as much about Nurjahan as it is about Laadli Begum, her unambitious daughter.
Although not a great fan of historical novels, I fou...

Captivating good read

As a student, history always bored me so when a friend gifted me with the novel- Nurjahan's Daughter on my birthday saying it was the best book he had read, I cursed him.
It was a day of utter boredom that made me open the book. I flipped through the first page and didn't put it down till midnight. The book is simply engrossing. The Mughal era came to life as I read the details of a culture that was both refined and hedonistic.
All I can say is that I am hooked to history and Nurjahan. Here's...

Partially copied from "Ladli Begum" by Narayan Sanyal

I just completed reading this book.. I was trying to find something which I did not know about this topic. Unfortunately, I found nothing as such. As a huge fan of the Bengali writer Narayan Sanyal, I had read his book 'Ladli Begum' and somehow I feel this book is much of a English-dummy of that book. Narayan Sanyal had a thorough research for his book. His research references were also elaborated in his book. But 'Nurjahan's Daughter' is really disappointing read. I am sorry for this comment...

A good read

As said in the Review title-a good read, though, as with most Indian authors prepositions are a weak link. I would have like the story to be more centred on Laadli rather than Nur Jehan. All in all, I'm glad I bought and read the book!
