The Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is used to determine a candidate’s ability to understand English in an academic setting and also in everyday usage. This score is used in addition to other tests for admission to Universities and colleges in America and in other English speaking countries.
This test is necessary to make sure that non-native English speaking students can understand the subjects being taught during the course.
It is also necessary to ensure that they can communicate well enough in English to handle normal daily situations like communicating with fellow students and being able to make themselves understood at shops etc.
The TOEFL is conducted by the Educational Testing Service, an independent, non-profit organization. The scores from this test is valid in several countries and can be used for admission to several Universities the world over.
