A sensitive, gripping and literally rich novel

The first thing that hit me about this book, was the writing style. It is rich and takes a time and a lot of effort to build the story and characters. Could be placed somewhere in between the Rushdie and jeffrey archer and the modern pop fiction that fills the stands these days. Each of the scenes and characters come alive and stay with you long after you've put finished the book.

The story, after the first couple of chapters, is full of twists and turns, becomes absolutely gripping and 'un-...

    Unusual story

The book is different from other love stories in Indian writing. I would say Mr. Rishi Vohra has done a remarkable work in his first book. Though it is not that easy to write a story about a psychotic person, the author has succeed in bringing up a love story of such a person. The narration is excellent and the author has clearly pictured Mumbai. The language is neat and not very complex.

Once Upon The Tracks of Mumbai

We have heard the Hollywood superheroes BAT MAN, SUPER MAN, SPIDER MAN but do superheroes emerge from the metal tracks ~ the RAIL MAN? Once Upon The Tracks of Mumbai, written by Rishi Vohra , turns out to be an interesting read.
Balwant Srivastav (aka Babloo) suffering from psychiatric problems, had neither received love nor attention from his family. The author's description about how Babloo received ignorance, his difficulty to grasp and process the fast words in his brain is bound t...

    A refreshing read!

Once upon the Tracks of Mumbai is a refreshing read with its realistic characters, a good plot, and am effortless narration. The insight into the Inidan Middle class society, the qualms and stereotypes attached with relationships made this book a really interesting one.
This isnt just a tale of a guy trying to win his girl- this is a tale with a solid, realistic STORY.
For a good story coming after ages from a new Indian author, I give a whole hearted 3.5/5 for this book!

A Good Read for a Train Journey

This book is author Rishi Vohra’s debut novel and is not a bad effort at that. The first half to three quarters of the book tend to drag along, slowly planting you in the midst of Mumbai, among all the bustling trains and crowds and noise. That, in my opinion, is the best thing the author has accomplished in this book – created a perfect stage. Mumbai actually feels like it’s come alive through the descriptions of the various areas, stations and even of the different people. The characters ha...

    A book with a soul

Some books are not meant to be read and forgotten..... it stays with you for a while, snippets from within its pages popping out at you in a certain situation. This is such a book. It has shades of varying degrees of grey, it has a protagonist who thinks like no other, and it has the settings of a much loved (and hated) city. Railways in India is a familiar setting, and will find a place in most people's hearts.

Babloo the protagonist is unpredictable, vulnerable and idealistic. A winning c...

    Refreshingly fun read

*keeping the review short and to the point*,
The story is at a good pace, not dragging at any point. Book cover may look like Bollywood-ish but story is not Typical. It's about the middle class families, their dreams, their hopes and struggle. It's about Babloo, whose life is not so easy, who has a hard time connecting to the real world... who loves Vandana only connecting thread to the read world for Babloo. Vandana, an ambitious girl with high dreams and have to courage to fulfill them, sh...

f you like a typical Mumbai style filmy story, you’re going to like this book!

Once upon the tracks of Mumbai is a book with different and multifaceted themes. This book tells the story of Balwant Srivastav (Babloo), who is an autistic and lives in the railway colony of Mumbai. Nobody cares for him except Vandana, who lives in the same colony. It focuses on Babloo’s self discovery and his secret love for Vandana. This book is tightly packed with romance, action, sex sequences, exploitation, and total Mumbai style filmy masala.

As a first time writer, Rishi Vohra has do...

Simple soft feel-good story - climax could have been better

When I picked this one, I expected an emotional tale of the autistic protagonist which would make my eyes moist. I was disappointed. Serves me right … what was I thinking, starting to read books with pre-conceived notions and expectations. Shouldn’t do it!!

The booked delved only a little bit on the perspective of the autistic protagonist who is simply ignored by most or worse, taken advantage off. He is ignored by his own family; as a result he learns to keep himself out of their sight to ...

Two thumbs up from me !

This is definitely a book worth buying. It's a welcome change from the usual chocolatey college boy love stories - the protagonist is such a unique character.
Beyond the love story, there is the element of the 'unknown vigilante' dubbed the Rail-Man by the media. The mystery surrounding his origins and motivations are also quite a treat.

    Two thumbs up from me.
