    Nice book

I am not sure why the reviewers didnt like the book.
I feel the book poignantly captures the tensions and social stigma faced by husband and wife without children. This book may be hard to related in this era of fertility centre and artificial birth techniques.

But human striving to have a child is highly biological especially to a women , its not so easy to contain. Hence all societies especially tribal societies had myths and rituals to have children by having sex with other person. The p...

A must read - though not so controversial

Let me be honest, that i picked this book only to know the reason behind the controversies related to the book.

And let me thank all those people who created the controversy, cos I would have missed a great book if they had not done it. The book is definitely a great read.
The novel is all about Ponna and Kali and their life. They don ahve a kid seems to be a huge problem to the society than theirs. The novel covers the pain and anguish in a relation, the insecurity of a loving husband.

    The...

    Good Read

Very nicely written. The real conditions of the society has been brought out. The translation needs to be appreciated; bringing out the intimate scenes so wonderfully. The controversy was not at all needed.

    Nice effort but fails

Looks like the unnecessary controversy surrounding the author and the book was created to up the sales of this book. Although this book has subtle messages to society and how we are as a whole, in general it fails to rake up the heart. I am rating it 2 because of the effort in writing this book

Read - just to know the baseless Controversy

The moral police & modern day cultural guardians of India made me read Perumal Murugan’s One Part Woman. I did not see any controversy in the novel. Slightly a dull novel, moving very slowly, repeating the same agony that the couple had no children... blah..blah ..blah...
The positive thing I see in the novel is: ‘the author tells what he wants to tell’- the plight of a childless couple – probably an ancient cultural solution...an orthodox praxis now sounds unorthodox.
    slight boring novel, e...

    Poignant and heart-rending

The story of a childless couple, One Part Woman is set on the day when Ponna's family is planning to go to Tiruchengode for the chariot festival. This is when men and women are permitted to have consensual sex; any child born of such a union is considered a child of god. We learn of Kali and Ponna's mutual devotion through a series of flashbacks; all that they have endured because they do not have children, and how that lack has affected their life. Eventually, Kali is lured away from the hou...

One Part Woman, excites and then disappoints

The first three quarters of the book is so well written than you would hardly leave it closed and then the climax comes like a popped balloon, disappointing you!
