Optical fiber communication systems have now become a sophisticated choice of communication for many systems designers and industry. Optical-fiber-based telecommunication networks have become a major information-transmission-system, with high capacity links around the globe in both terrestrial and undersea installations. This book is an expert guide offering a completely up-to-date, and in-depth introduction to optical fiber communication principles and applications. The book offers a detailed and focused treatment for anyone in need of authoritative information on this critical area underlying optical fiber communication. The author's selection and organization of material have been developed, tested, and refined from his lecture notes on this subject for past 18 years and a long experience in the field of research. The book is carefully structured to provide practical knowledge on fundamental issues and explores advanced techniques. This book fills the need for a text that emphasizes definitive approach that shed light on the behavior and dynamics of the optical fiber communication, optical devices and its components. All the chapters have been designed with updated information and many have been extended wherever necessary. The book offers extensive theoretical coverage of the subject. Using a consistent and definitive approach, the author leads you step-by-step through each topic. Each skillfully crafted chapter first explores the theoretical concepts, and then demonstrates how these principles apply to real-world applications by guiding you through examples illuminated with numerous illustrations. Contents in brief : a)Overview of the Optical Fiber Communications technology, its key aspects and architecture. b)The optical transmitters and modulation and detection techniques of optical signals. c)Fiber optic cables, light dispersion and attenuation in optical components, fiber optic cables and installations, fiber optic connectors etc.
