Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is a story of rebirth and the love stories of a woman in both her births. The protagonist in the book Claire Randall is a combat nurse and goes on a holiday to the British Isles with her husband. One day when she is visiting Craigh na Dun, she is transported back in time to 1743 in the war-ravaged Scotland. She is taken into custody by the Clan Mackenzie, and she uses her medical skills to treat the wounded men. Claire is then taken to Castle Leoch, the abode of the Scots. She also realizes that the Scots are treating her as an outlander. She grows close to Jamie McTavish, the soldier whom she treated. Circumstances force her to marry Jamie, and although she agrees reluctantly, she enjoys Jamie’s company. Her memories of her husband, Frank, however grows strong and she is still seeking the stones at the Craigh na Dun from where she hopes to get back to him. The story further talks about the relationship of Claire and Jamie and the challenges they face.

Diana Gabaldon was born on January 11, 1952, in Arizona. She is known for her Outlander series and is the author of books like Dragonfly In Amber and Voyager. Gabaldon obtained a PhD from the Northern Arizona University in Ecology. She was an Assistant Professor at the Centre For Environmental Studies. She presently lives in Phoenix, Arizona and is a full-time author.
