    Excellent Anthology of Introductory Science

Edited and commented by Richard Dawkins, this book is a collection of excerpts from famous works of science. It includes an assortment from different branches of science. It may be no accident, given the editor's background, that biology and evolution have received a slightly higher weightage in overall set.
