Paglu  (DVD Bengali)

Deb (Dev) is Rimi's ( Koel) 'Paglu' . But Senator dad (Rajatava) thinks his darling daughter is complete 'pagli' to fall for someone, who is so beneath their status.

He tricks Rimi, who is currently in India, to return to the States. The jamai, however, is not of the 'character' to let go off so easily. And so begins a cat-and-mouse game between the sasur and the jamai. Always remember that any successful love story needs to be boosted by a vital potion, that of loyal friendship. Deb too has his trusted group of dosts , who provide him with the money to go abroad. Now, the hero lands in America for "Esechhi toke niye firbo bole" and frees her beloved from house arrest. The two are then on the run trying every means and manoeuvres to evade the scheming dad.

Surely, you know where the climax is headed in this sweet tale of romance? Not path breakingly different, Rajib's " Paglu" also follows the rich-girl-falls-for-poor-guy formula, where the twist in the tale is left to either of the parents objecting to the match. But what keeps the film going and the audience entertained is the treatment.

Deb declares, "Deb mathe name jetar jonno" . And true to his claims, Dev emerges a winner, with his loverboy image, action and Nunchaku sequences and, of course, his grooves. He bashes up the bad guys but not before warning: 'Emon mar marbo je police o amar kachhe sikhte asbe kelano kake bole' . Koel, on the other hand, is a treat to watch. Her Rimi comes across as believable and impactful. Rajatava too helps Deb earn the taalis , thanks to his shrewd father-in-law act. So, his "Jiska koi nahi hai, uska sasur hai" is competently matched with "Karo biodata dekhe prem hoye na. Prem kortey gele buker pata lage" . The 'friend'ly lot has some mentionable performances by Neel and Parth Sarathi.

However, the true hero of "Paglu" is Jeet Gannguli's music. Right from "Paglu thoda sa kar le romance" to "Mon bebagi" , the numbers are a rage. Thanks to Kumud Verma's cinematography, the foreign locales have been picturesquely captured.
