In Pakistan: A Personal History, Imran Khan presents his personal journey and experiences in his country, Pakistan.

    Summary Of The Book

Born five years after the creation of Pakistan as an Islamic Republic, Khan relives all his experiences through his book, Pakistan: A Personal History.

The history of Pakistan is far from peaceful. The erratic politics, the violence, the arbitrary domination of the elite class, and the inability to efficiently rule a diverse group of people are only some of the gruesome events that are enmeshed in this country’s history. Pakistan’s politics have always been unpredictable.

Khan tries to figure out the various facets of this country and traces as well as narrates his own impressions of his birth place. This work is not just a critique but also highlights Khan’s own efforts to revolutionize the political scenario there through the establishment of his political party, Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Khan has always noted the tension between the military and the government of Pakistan, which often led to violent repercussions. Pakistan: A Personal History traces the injustice and volatility and also offers solutions through this alternate political party.

It is an account that comes from an insider and Khan represents his narrative in such a way that it appeals to the West. History is laced with Khan’s own experiences as a child, his education in Oxford, his successful cricketing career, and his marriage to Jemima Goldsmith. He does not sugarcoat anything and realizes his own and his country’s shortcomings.

In spite of that, Pakistan: A Personal History also tries to do away with the misunderstandings and stereotypes that are associated with Khan’s country.

Laced with facts tinged with hypocrisy

Imranâ??s memoir is a curious amalgam of authorâ??s religious beliefs, humanitarian work, cricketing career, happy childhood, marriage, foray into politics. Different aspects of his colorful, eventful life have been skilfully blended to make an interesting read.

Author has sought to dispel negative image people in general have toward Islam. He disparages the notion that Islam is a violent religion. Author has brought to life Islamâ??s glorious past. It was interesting to know Hazrat Uma...

    excellent book

Imran Khan has spoken his heart out quite plainly and unassumingly.I must say it is a book which needs to be read with a clear conscience, not to judge it with in the perspective of India or Pakistan. the way he put forth his ideas on Taliban and Pushtu mentality is highly commendable and remarkably enlightening,I only hope that Barack Obama go through it. Recommended for either side of the border.

    Incorrect Categorization

Imran Khan has been one of the most amazing cricket players the world has ever seen. I bought this book assuming I would get to know how politics in cricket in Pakistan have moved over time. Instead I got a book that is more about his philosophy, Islam as a religion and the political outfit he started. The book should surely be not categorized under sports. Its a nice read, but got boring on me after a while. I am not sure my money was well spent. There are several other books that explain Is...

    Sports + Politics - a interesting mix

I got to learn both about Pakistani politics and Pakistani cricket from this book.

How Pakistan struggle before it started winning in the 92 world cup,
How Imran khan managed to fund his hospital,
the history of Pakistan politics, etc
are well narrated in this book.

A good beginner book to understand Pakistani politics and cricket.
