Panasonic brings you one of the best contenders in the Micro Four Thirds market. The Lumix DMC-GF1 is a compact and steadfast camera that is perfect for any photographer intending to start using Micro Four Thirds. This camera comes with a 17.3 x 13.0 mm Live MOS image sensor which shoots dynamic images at 12.1 megapixels and provides impressive results even when printed at large size.

Equipped with a Venus Engine HD processor, the DMC-GF1 camera can record high-resolution HD videos at 1280 x 720 resolution. This Lumix camera supports 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and 1:1 aspect ratios.

Body

The Panasonic DMC-GF1 weighs only 285 g without accessories and is one of the lightest Micro Four Thirds in the market. The aesthetically designed GF1 sports a retro design which looks quite remarkable. The compact size and ergonomically placed controls make it easy for you to handle and operate this camera.

There is a dedicated Video Record button for recording videos in HD whenever you want to. The 3 inch Polycrystalline TFT LCD offers 100 percent field of view with 460000 dots screen resolution. This mirror-less camera supports SD and SDHC memory cards which can be used to expand the storage capacity. A rechargeable Lithium Ion battery powers this camera. When fully charged, you can click up to 350 images.

Performance

Compatible with Micro Four Thirds lenses, the Panasonic DMC-GF1 digital camera supports all Lumix G Lenses (Ranging from ultra-wide angle to telephoto) and Leica DG lens. The flexibility of being able to use multiple lenses increases your horizon for capturing exclusive images.

This Panasonic camera offers a focal length of 14 - 45 mm (35 mm film camera equivalent 28 mm to 90 mm). The aperture setting controls the amount of light that falls on the image sensor when the shutter opens. The Lumix G Vario lens mounted on the DMC-GF1 camera comes with an aperture ranging between f/3.5 (Wide) - 5.6 (Tele).

The Panasonic mirror-less camera offers a digital zoom of 4x thereby bringing your subjects closer for more detailed photography. The closest focusing distance covered by the Panasonic GF1 camera is 0.30 m at all focal lengths.

This Panasonic digital camera has ISO ranging from 100 - 3200 which gives you the capability of shooting clear images in different lighting situations like twilight, florescent light, tungsten, mid-afternoon and lot of other lighting conditions. With the shutter speed ranging from 1/4000 - 60 seconds, you can now capture photographs of subjects while they are in motion.

Features & Connectivity

The DMC-GF1 features a variety of scene modes which include Portrait, Soft Skin, Scenery, Architecture and many more. These scene modes automatically adjust the camera's settings to cater to the shooting mode required. The DMC-GF1 comes with Face Recognition feature which remembers the faces that are registered in it. You can register up to 3 images per person in order to increase the recognition accuracy. Once registered, the camera will automatically prioritize focus and sharpness and ensure crystal-clear images of the registered people.

The Optical Image Stabilizer makes sure that none of the images get blurred even at maximum zoom. This Micro Four Thirds camera also has a self-timer which provides a delay of 2 or 10 seconds giving you enough time to join your group of friends or family for a nice group photograph. In the Burst Shooting mode, this DMC camera can click images at 3 fps when set on High, and 2 fps at Low Speed.

The GF1 camera supports JPEG (DCF, Exif 2.21), RAW, DPOF formats for still images. The video formats supported by this camera are AVCHD Lite and QuickTime Motion JPEG. The Panasonic GF1 comes with a USB 2.0 connectivity cable which allows you to connect and transfer images and videos to your laptop or PC. The HDMI connectivity allows you to connect the camera to an HDTV. This Panasonic Lumix camera also includes an AV cable.
