This book is a Marathi translation of the book originally written in Sanskrit by Pandit Vishnu Sharma in around 300 B.C. The aim of the book was to educate the three sons of the king Amarshakti living in the capital city Mahilaropya (in Southern India). The three sons – Bahushakti, Ugrashakti, and Anantashakti were young and unwise. The king was disturbed thinking of their future and wanted them to be intelligent and wise so that they could be capable of taking the reins of his kingdom in his absence. The King called the conference of scholars wherein his trusted Pradhana Sumati suggested the name of the renowned scholar Pandit Vishnu Sharma who was well versed in all Shastras. Pt. Vishnu Sharma also accepted the challenge of making the three princes expert in ethics within six months. For this purpose, Pt. Vishnu Sharma wrote Panchatantra which has become world-famous till date.
