  • Description

Hindu mythology is replete with tales in which animals play the most important roles. Pashu: Animal Tales from Hindu Mythology, by Devdutt Pattanaik, is an exquisitely illustrated book that recounts animal stories from ancient texts.

    Summary of the Book

Discover how a fish saves the world, how a horse flies across the sky, and how a king finds out that his beloved wife is actually a frog! Few animals are looked upon with fear while the others are associated with Gods and worshipped. Some seem to mould the fate of the world while others form enduring bonds with humans. From Vishnu’s avatars to Shiva’s asanas, this book delves into questions such as the following: how was a deer responsible for a lot of events of the Ramayana? Why is Garuda the archenemy of the nagas? How did a mongoose teach Yudhishthira the meaning of sacrifice? Pattanaik answers all these questions and more in this title with his usual charm and wit.

    Worth it for your child

The simple narration and beautifully illustrated book is definitely recommended to be a valuable addition to your child's collection. Even though some of the stories are popular and known to her, still my 11 year old daughter eagerly devoured it in less than an hour.

    Ideal for the young ones

Devdutt Patnaik picks up many of those stories from mythology which have some specific animal as a character and delivers it to you in a simple, easy to read English format.
At best, this book will serve as a great way of introduction to mythology for young ones, at worse, this will get a grown up interested in mythology and animal lores from mythology.
Overall, this book is value for money.
However, if you have the option to, buy a digital version since the paper quality is pretty bad consid...

    Nice

Lovely children's book. Would buy it again. Bought it after reading Sita and Jaya by the same author. This is similar in style but adapted for younger audiences.
