One of the best books you'll ever read..

It's got everything a good popular science book should have -- excellent language, cracking humour, difficult concepts explained clearly to a lay audience, with just enough speculative thoughts put in, to encourage the reader to follow up on the fire that will be surely lit in his/her mind. And that's what this book is all about -- the human mind. Be prepared to be shocked and awed. You'll read about things you've never imagined possible. It was a whole-new-world to me when I read it. Best of...

Must Read for the inquisitive, skeptical and intellectually curious

Absolutely awesome book and a must read for intellectually curious, mystery lovers and thinkers. I was highly impressed by the way a scientist has expressed his research in a simple, elaborate and scientific language. The whole book was like a story and I, as a reader, played a part in it while relating the cases to some observation or situation I faced in life. The book is like a mystical tale, where in the difference between this book and a mystery book is that the situations, observations ...

The wonder called 'Brain'

Mind-blowing! The book covers anatomical to functional aspects of the brain. The book scientifically reveals how and why brain is the crux of the notion called 'self' and how perceptions can change with a slight tweak in the connections between the neurons. The case studies only add on to the wonder of simplicity within the complexity. As Dr Francis Crick said for the book, "If you are at all interested in how your brain works, this is the book you must read."

[P.S. After reading this, most ...

Great book but not suitable for all readers

I purchased the book through flipkart and asusual the delivery of the book was made within three days from the date of order. When i read the reviews of the book, i beleived that the book is gonna discuss about the way the brain works and how to coordinate and control the thinking process. But actually the book details about the brains entire working nature and also the stories of the patients who had faced difficulties after meeting major accidents in their life and how various methods we...

This book fulfilled the purpose of one's question about the function of the brain. A must read book for everyone. As usual the flipkart's was good, received the book in a mint condition.

Amazing book

This book reminded me why I have always loved the study of the brain so much. I had goosebumps at so many junctures. One thing I really really love about the way he describes brain science is how he brings in relevant evolutionay parallels and discussions. It's probably impossible to understand the brain without an evolutioary approach by the side; and that really made the whole subject more alive and interesting. A great read, especially for those who find brain science interesting.

Words are poor !

my favorite quotes from this book:
-We have given up the idea that there is a soul separate from our minds and bodies.
-It's probably not coincidence that many of the most creative scientists have a great sense of humor.
-Your own body is a phantom, one that your brain has temporarily constructed purely for convenience.
