I was eleven years old when I wrote my first poem. It was about one of my favourite cartoons: Tom and Jerry. I wish I had saved that piece of paper which was appreciated and discussed by my family much more than it deserved. My fascination for stories and language grew while reading school textbooks and listening to my teachers talk about them with enthusiasm. I remember drowning in poetry lessons at school, coming back home and reading the poems repeatedly while looking up all the unfamiliar words. The rhyming words were like music to my ears. Literally.
When I started writing poetry on my blog, I would often think about how many people would actually connect with what I was feeling at that time. I still think the same. It's when I started hearing from strangers in the form of comments on my blog and social media that I realized that they do. The poems make them feel that there is someone out there watching them, listening to their hearts, and translating their feelings into words. It's true that poetry might not save or change the world, but it does make people feel a little less lonely.
In Pink Walls Made Of Sponge, I wanted to share 20 such poems that make the readers feel heard, understood, and empowered.
