Astonishing work by an upcoming writer

My first impression about this was that another writer is trying to piggyback on all the IPL drama- fixing, sex, drugs, etc. but I was mistaken. The cricket part is not the story but the story actually lies in the corporate environment surrounding it. And that's what makes it all the more exciting!
So you have Vivek Grewal, a young and powerful senior manager of a corporate house who sees potential in an underperforming IGL team and decides to bring it over. Here he meets Keya, a suave lady w...

A to the point corporate thriller

I wasn't impressed by Parinda Joshi's first book but somehow Parinda managed to change my perception of her writing through her second one. 'Powerplay: The Game is On' sees a big honcho, Vivek Grewal, a typical snobby industrialist kind of guy work his way around the money and politics to acquire an IGL (IPL?) team, Ahmedabad Rangers. He faces some trouble from Keya Singhal, an employee in the management of the same faltering IGL team.
Keya is a no-nonsense woman and wants to acquire what is...

    The real power of story-telling

I was pleasantly surprised to come across this corporate thriller titled 'Powerplay.' It came across as a fresh change from the book I have read recently. Being a modern working girl, I could so relate to Keya Singhal, a like minded go getter woman who works under the Marketing department of an IGL team, Ahmedabad Rangers. It is the same team her nemesis and potential boyfriend material, Vivek Grewal will come to handle the acquisition of for one of his friends.
    The primary characters are rea...

    Engrossing read that doesn't disappoint

Some books come as a surprise (pleasant one, I mean!) and Powerplay was definitely one of them! Originally themed as a cricket meets business tips love story, Powerplay also has a lot of other ingredients added in copious amounts to keep the reader engrossed till the very end.
The novel talks about IGL, a cricket tournament taken up from the IPL obviously, where emotions run high and a team named Ahmedabad Rangers is about to be kicked out as the owners can't fund it anymore. The reigns of th...

    A warm one-time read

The moment I turned the last page of this book, the first thought that struck my mind was- How did I actually read it? Being more of a romance reader, I was expecting to see more love emergence between the two main protagonists, Vivek and Keya, however it didn't come across as strongly as I had wished.
Not taking it as a negative point though, it clearly even surprised myself that I found cricket and corporate writing this thrilling for the very first time. And even more surprising, it is an ...

An interesting tale of two conflicting personalities

Parinda Joshi emerged as one of the names I haven't heard but immediately regretted hearing. Yeah, she's kind of cute I can see that but not the bimbo kind of cute. After reading her, one can definitely say 'Here is one beauty with brains!'
Parinda's new novel 'Powerplay' was not a disappointment at all. It deals with back office politics and the ugly side of the corporate world while in between trying to balance a love story between opposites, Vivek and Keya. The former is a successful consu...

Should keep you hooked till the end

In these days of romance brews, Parinda Joshi's novel 'Powerplay' comes as a fresh change into the world of business, glamour and cricket and of course a bit of love and much high intensity drama!
Pretty impressed by Parinda's writing- taut humor and a breezy style that flows through pages make this story a pretty comfortable read. I finished it within five hours. My favorite character from the book is Keya, the level-minded lead female from the story. I could pretty much identify the new age...

    Interesting, exciting and addictive

The book has a catchy cover and synopsis for starters and the blurbs are stellar.

In midst of all the cricket controversies one would expect it would be a quick buck-making gimmick, which delightfully it is not. This is a very very well written book with subtle and original humor. It’s engaging and the words themselves flow so eloquently it’s almost like watching a movie. Reminded me of Jerry Maguire with the corporate setting and the sports backdrop, and of course, the romance.

    What I lov...

    Intelligent, compelling page-turner

I read an excerpt on IBNLive and bought this book. I had a vague idea of what to expect from the book after scanning the synopsis and the excerpt, but I must admit, this book completely surprised me.

There’s a lot that has been packed into 300 pages. The plot is mesmeric and the writing is charming, liberally sprinkled with quips. Full points on the humor and the wordplay.

Anyone who works in corporate India will find the book relatable. Those dialogues especially are crisp and very well wr...

    My thoughts on Powerplay

Powerplay plays on the IPL mania (called IGL in the book) and we see a team called 'Ahmedabad Rangers' struggling to make an impact since the past three seasons. Enter Vivek Grewal (why does he remind me of Kejriwal?), a successful VP in a top M&A consulting group who finds an investor in his 'supposed friend' and makes him see the brighter side of things to step into the world of media and entertainment by acquiring this struggling team.
And once the acquisition starts, one is confronted wit...
