    Description

Pratham Alo (Bengali) is a book that provides the readers with key insights into the lives of several historical figures in recent history, bringing out their nobility in a unique way.

    Summary Of The Book

Pratham Alo (Bengali) is a stunning piece of literature that documents the lives of historical characters from several walks of life, including education, religion, politics, and theatre. Although this book is written in a manner that it appears fictional, it is packed with historical facts about people in history that most of us don’t know much about. The uniqueness of this book lies in the fact that Gangopadhyay has presented the readers with a humanized portrait of icons such as Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramhansa, and Rabindranath Tagore.

Gangopadhyay tells the readers about Tagore’s interest in his niece and sister-in-law, the fall of the zamindars and the royalty, and the fear in Ramakrishna Parmahansa’s heart as he lay terminally ill, suffering from throat cancer. By bringing to light their understandable shortcomings as humans, Gangopadhyay is able to present the readers with a vivid picture of their nobility.

Apart from these history-makers that shaped Bengal as well as the entire nation, Gangopadhyay also includes a love story revolving around two fictional characters, Bharat and Bhumisuta. This love story assists in camouflaging one of the greatest lessons in history as a fictional work. Gangopadhyay also tells the readers about Swami Vivekananda, who was named by the Raja of Khetri, who also supported him financially for his Chicago trip for the World Parliament of Religions. He also explains how Rabindranath Tagore’s first fan wasn’t anyone from Bengal, but the grief-stricken Maharaja of Tripura, who found peace in reading Tagore’s poetry. Crisply written and factually backed-up, Pratham Alo (Bengali) is definitely worth reading for those who want to gain insights into the lives of individuals who have shaped Indian history.

Perhaps the best book based on 19th century

The book is based on the memorable characters and incidents of the late 19th century and very early 20th century. To know the richness of bengali culture one must read this book. The events are historical and is written in a very informative way. You can know a lot of new things about Swami Vivekananda and also Raindranath Tagore.
At the end of the book, it will come into our mind whether the character named Bharat really existed or not.
Thanks to Sunil Gangopadhay for giving us such an novel...

    Few peers,indeed.

In the voluminous Prtham Aalo, Sunil Gangopadhyay had quite lucidly proved himself once again.
His mastery over the art of creating fiction-omnibus basing the real history is well known. Sunil has few peers indeed.

    Not with all the pages

This book is with more than 1000 pages. The book I received that is not with all the pages, few pages are missing at the end, so I got the uncompleted story! Total waste!

As it's big story book, so I noticed it long day back I ordered it because I needed time to ready the 1000 pages! So I was not able to call Flipkart for replacement! It's really a big concern!

when time itself is the protagonist

Rabindranath, Ramkrishna paramhansa, Swami Vivekananda, Keshab Sen, Jyotirindranath Tagore, J.C. Bose, and all those sons of Bengal, who took literature, science, spirituality to another level.

Prathom aalo not only is a great read but also retelling history at its best. A style invented by Sunil Gangopadhay himself and he is best at it. one of my favorite books
