The scope of the histology is continuously evolving and expanding in scientific as well as commercial fields. The conventional histological methods are still considered as gold-standard. In this book, I have tried to explain the principles of histological techniques in an easy manner. Introduction to each chapter will help the reader to recapitulate the basic knowledge of the topic. The principles explained for each method will help to understand the reason behind the staining techniques. Technical aspects are discussed in coloured boxes, that will be helpful for the students as a guide while performing experiments. Troubleshoot points are included in each chapter to overcome common problems of staining. List of questions at the end of each chapter will help the students while preparing for the examinations. The reference list will guide the curious reader for further reading. Microscopy section is dealt with an orientation towards use in the practical examinations. A chapter on 'Light' and 'Optics' are included to convey the basic principles of microscopy. For easy explanation, microscopy section is supported with illustrated diagrams. Principles of immunohistochemistry are dealt in a manner that facilitates new learner to understand the concepts. Topics included in annexures such as museum techniques, diagnostic cytology, autoradiography, preparation of buffers and standard solutions will support the reader to cover examination syllabus and will be useful for laboratory personnel. I have tried to include only essential information to prevent reading burden on the students. Procedural details and the practically essential information are also given in different fonts so that this book can be used as a laboratory manual.
