Derek O’Brien is an author, Member of Parliament, and acclaimed television personality. He has authored numerous books on quizzes. Some of these titles are The Puffin Factfinder, Essential Knowledge Quiz Book, Speak Up, Speak Out: My Favourite Elocution Pieces And How To Deliver Them, and The Ultimate India Quiz Book.

O’Brien completed his education at St. Columba’s School and Scottish Church College. He began his journalism career at Sportsworld magazine. He later changed career paths to advertising when he started working at Ogilvy. O’Brien is currently the host of The Bournvita Quiz Contest, which is the longest running game show on television. He is also the CEO of Derek O’Brien & Associates. Derek is married to Dr. Tonuca Basu. Together, they have a daughter named Aanya. Derek currently resides in Kolkata.
