The most comprehensive and least partisan account of Maoists written in recent years

How did Chhattisgarh turn into India’s ‘biggest internal security threat’? How did it become the epicentre of the Maoist rebellion? Why did the backbenchers—the quiet adivasi classmates from the author’s school—turn into the nation’s ‘biggest terrorists’?

In this passionate quest to find out what ails the failing heart of India, Subharanshu Choudhary spent seven years with hundreds of Maoists, asking probing questions at all levels of their hierarchy to meticulously piece together the stories of these hunted men and women.

At the centre of this extraordinary account is the enigmatic Vasu—at once comrade and rebel, friend and stranger. By telling his story, Choudhary destroys many stereotypes to flesh out a layered portrait of the misunderstood Maoist.

    Interesting title

Lets call him vasu is a rare read. It comprises of dialogues with all the stake holders of naxalism. The history of the naxal movement is beautifully blended between dialogues, which makes it an interesting read. Overall, a great work by a sincere journalist.

    Commendable work by the Author!

Often stories that emerge from the naxal affected tribal areas are either diluted by the government agencies or corporate houses, and not to exclude the naxalites themselves. These stories portray the on-going war in tribal areas as black and white while deliberately overlooking the grey areas, which fail to make their voices loud enough to be heard. While stories like that by Arundhati Roy are rubbished on grounds of romanticizing the maoist struggle, the public discourse settles with the hi...

    Great Book

Author is a journalist who has spent considerable time in those regions , implying he isn't a fly by night operator , his heart is with the Adivasis there nor with naxals neither with government.

The book is quite objective in approach but deals with naxalism only in Chhattisgarh , nor the whole of Red Corridor which is good infact. It traces the origin of naxals in south chattisgarh , gives new information about SP Chaubey issue , the alienation of tribals . However it lacks a socio-econom...

THE FIGHT OF 95% WITH 5%

This book is well written by Shubhranshu after spending a lot of time with the maoist while reading the book we come to know about a different India where there is complete exploitation and deprevation of the poor and our so called democracy the big tree needs to be cut and the soil disinfected and then a new seeds needs to be sowed so that a new system can emerge which can truly be for the people by the people and of the people.
    Lets Hope.
