Set in Shimla, The Red Tin Roof evokes with rare delicacy and precision the interplay of seasons, nature and people, while it broodingly tells the story of a young girl growing into adolescence, in the company mostly of older women but also of a younger brother who trails her. In this explorationof an inner world, Nirmal Verma does not so much as tell a story as reminisce. Memory is the seed of his story.

Great book bordering on existentialism
Typically Verma- desolate, cut off, dreamy characters living in a world within. Beautifully written from the perspective of a young girl edging into maturity.
Highly recommend this book- as a story it's stylish, engaging and an easy read. Yet when you finish the book you realize the deeper questions it evokes. Read it!
I read about the book in a newspaper article mentioning names of top books of 2013 that were translated from Hindi...Since 'Cobalt Blue' was a great book, I thought of purchasing the others as well...
The Red Tin Roof did not disappoint as well...one can relate to it at some point or the other!
