  • Description

The Land of the Seven Rivers is a curious read on how several stories and facts that are a part of the history of India actually came to existence. It questions a lot of incidents that have taken place in the history of India.

    Summary of the Book

With wit and intelligence, Sanjeev Sanyal goes on to question and explore the country’s history. There re many questions, which may seem odd, that he asks in this book. For example: Why did Buddha walk all the way to Sarnath for his sermon?, Did the great flood which is a legend in India actually happen? and Why was the highest mountain named after George Everest. He has immersed himself in old records and manuscripts, observed the oceans and mountains and visiting ancient archeological sites. All this for the sake of finding out how the history of the nation has actually come about.

    About the Author

Very Good book for history, a must to read

Book is necessarily a history book. At first i thought it as a geography book but i found it useful in the way that it connects the two. Learning history through geographical land marks is really fantastic ans fascinating. Reading this book gives you a feeling as if the whole scene narrated in the book is actually being played in front of eye of the reader. How India actually changed geographically, culturally, habitually, sensually, everything is covered. It essentially tells how India has c...

A good read on our History

A good read for anyone who is interested in Indian History. It answered many question I had in my mind, like why is India called Bharath, what gave Britishers an edge over Portugese and other invaders, and many more that I hadn't even thought of. Give it a read to get a glimpse of our heritage.

PS: I brought the book from outside for Rs 399. Should have brought from flipkart. Still was worth it. Was what I was searching for :)

    A good read

A very lucidly written book on the history of India's Geography. It does not sound like a boring lecture that you were forced to attend on a subject that was not particularly engaging. The book is easy to read and has some very interesting information about the importance of Mapping in India and how it shaped the destiny of several foreign rulers who ruled over the vast land. The symbolism of Tigers and Lions in the building of kingdoms was particularly enthralling and was an eye opener for m...

A metaphor to our unkown history

I was quiet skeptical when a friend suggested me this book but after going through 1st few pages I was excited about what was in store. The book summurizes our entire history right from harrapan Civilization to British India, it gives us all those details which we scarcely find in general history books. It was amazing to know how Mt.Everest was discovered and why it got its name also fascinating was the story about Allahabad Pillar. All in all a good book but on the con side for all the naive re...

Refreshing take on Indias History through a geographical perspective

A superb book explaining the history of India through its geography. The Book starts with R1a1 genes and its origins, goes on to cover Out of India Theory with conviction, Harappa civilization, the lost river Saraswati , Vedic culture and works, Gangetic plains, Medieval India kingdoms, Delhi sultans, Mughal, Europeans and everthing in between. It's a mix of travelogue, Geography and History so i found it really refreshing and interesting. It covers many little known places like Hampi Vijayna...
