  • Description
This groundbreaking study examines how the East India Company founded an empire in India at the same time it started losing ground in business. For over 200 years, the Company's vast business network had spanned Persia, India, China, Indonesia and North America. But in the late 1700s, its career took a dramatic turn, and it ended up being an empire builder. In this fascinating account, Tirthankar Roy reveals how the Company's trade with India changed it-and how the Company changed Indian business. Fitting together many pieces of a vast jigsaw puzzle, the book explores how politics meshed so closely with the conduct of business then, and what that tells us about doing business now. 'One of the first major attempts to tell the company's story from an Indian business perspective'-Financial Express

A neutral rational story of the Company

The author and the publisher have made every effort to make this book a book for everyone. The writing is very lucid, font is big so that you can read it in your bed, the look and feel is very nice and the topic is of lot of interest particularly for the indian audience and the book looks nice as a gift item also.
The book demystifies the story of East India company and looks at it from a different angle than the prevalent one of the oppressor. The book looks at the company from a business en...

The East India Company - the World's Most Powerful Corporation by Tirthankar Ray

A fine primer on the commerce of The East India Company, spotlighting how from its genesis as a Trading outfit the Company evolved as one of the key figures in Indian history, that changed the profile of Indian Business forever. Mr. Roy has steadfastly held on to brevity in his narration, but doesn't miss out on any significant facet in explaining how the Company twisted the contours of Indian commerce over a 200 year sweep - from early 17th century till around the end of 19th century. This a...

    Lack of depth

The book is not upto the mark. There is lack of depth and Author could not touche the depth of such an insightful topic.Author seems to be in hurry.Everything has been covered in hurry.Reading whole book you feel that you just touched the surface. It could have been explored a bit.
    FlipKart delivery is great.Thanks.
