  • Description
Three years ago, the brutal killing of a young TV producer called Neeraj Grover sent shockwaves through Mumbai. An alluring aspiring actress, Maria Susairaj, and her dashing naval officer boyfriend, Emile Jerome, were accused of killing him and hacking his body into pieces, before setting it on fire. The cast of characters was young, attractive, and upwardly mobile, the press hungry for a headline. As details of the case unravelled, the questions flew around—what had gone wrong? What made these young professionals turn to violent crime? Was it the savage pressure of the city, or was the motive even darker? This book will shock and inspire a much needed change in perception of celebrity culture and Bollywood. It’s about so much more than a contested killing case and will be a talking point for years to come.

    Good but not as expected

I bought this book from Flipkart, first of all a big salute to u guys for maintaining the standard, I received the book by 2 days as promised. Regarding the book as the name suggests this book is abt the sensational murder of neeraj. It gives a clear insight of the main characters involved in this case thus leaving the judgement to the readers about who was wrong. This book doesnt prove that somenone was wrong or right and that is the best part of this book. But I am disappointed about includ...

    Gripping real life thriller

This book is excellent crime non-fiction, perhaps the first indian one capturing an entire moment in time in the backdrop of crime. Perhaps the biggest compliment one could pay this book is that it is a quintessential Bombay book, and like the city it is writing about, it is no nonsense, always purposefully ahead. The pace is breath taking, the expanse really wide, and sometimes this book slows down just enough to cover character sketches, to remind the reader that this is humans we are talki...

Gripping Style of Writing, A good page turner

I may have liked this book because I hadn't read much about the Neeraj Grover murder case nor watched RGV's movie based on it. It starts well with giving a thorough background on the main characters and gradually builds up the story culminating on the ill-fated day which is spine-chilling. It also gives a behind-the-scene peek into the cut-throat world of the TV serial industry in Mumbai including an interview with the Serial Queen herself- Ekta Kapoor. Altogether, its a very good book. Fast-...

    Classy product

Truely gruesome! I haven't ever read or heard of the sort of the gruesome murder that's depicted in the book. I pity Emile 'cause he loved such a wayward and promiscuous girl like Maria who ultimately showed her true colour by betrayaing him when she acted sort like approver in the court against him to get the sympathy and minimum of sentence. Great book! Rajashekhar. S. Karajagi.

Vivid account of Versova/Lokhandwala struggling population of actors and assistant directors, dreaming to make it big in Bollywood

Interesting insight into the world of aspiring actors who populate the stretch from Andheri to Goregaon. Especially the part about Ekta Kapoor is quite well written and hits the nail on its filmy head. Some parts and internal dialogues of the main protagonists have to be taken with a grain of salt as they are the writer's own extrapolations, but overall, Death in Mumbai is an insightful and vividly sketched narrative of people 'struggling' to make it in the entertainment industry.

    Good read

The book not only deals with the murder, but also tries to find the psychology of the killers behind it. The author has largely succeeded in her endeavour. The writing style is simple but gripping. There is no sensationalisation or melodrama in it. A recommended read.

    A gripping read

I completed Death in Mumbai by Meenal Baghel recently; the book is an unraveling of the murder investigation of Neeraj Grover who was murdered in May 2008 by Emile Jerome and his fiance Maria Susairaj was implicated in the crime; the book is extremely detailed; the writer conducted detailed interviews with all protagonists; the initial chapter gives you the preface and the background of the killing; followed by a chapter on each of the three protagonists; Also the writer meanders into bollywo...
