  • Description
Playwright, author and activist Eve Ensler has devoted her life to the female body—how to talk about it, how to protect and value it. Yet she spent much of her life disassociated from her own body—a disconnection brought on by her father’s sexual abuse and her mother’s remoteness. “Because I did not, could not, inhabit my body or the Earth,” she writes, “I could not feel or know their pain.” But Ensler is shocked out of her distance. While working in the Congo, she is shattered to encounter the horrific rape and violence inflicted on the women there. Soon after, she is diagnosed with uterine cancer and, through months of harrowing treatment, she is forced to become first and foremost a body—pricked, punctured, cut, scanned. It is then that all distance is erased. As she connects her own illness to the devastation of the Earth, her life force to the resilience of humanity, she is finally, fully—and gratefully—joined to the body of the world. Unflinching, generous and inspiring, Ensler calls on us all to embody our connection to and responsibility for the world.

In the body of the World

the book by Eve Ensler is a memoir of her ordeal of having cured Cancer in regenerative system. She is haunted by memories of childhood trauma, rapes in Congo etc.The book is just average with most liberal standards but is better then her most talked about work The Vagina Monologues. It is also about her V campaign, social work etc which is also overrated. The book is a small work with just enough material to evolve into a small book but I dont know how this gets all that publicity, limelight...

The Book one must read !

Though it is primarily a book about her cancer and chemo treatment , it is about our life. It makes us think afresh about our priorities - often wrong ones ! Like the places you must see before you die, it is a book you must read well before you leave the prime of your life behind. You are missing something till you share her experience.

    A must read-specially for women

The author is the lady who wrote "Vagina Monologues" and also started a movement called V-day to end violence against women. It's her story of fight against cancer in her uterus,ovary.......The book is her journey of finding herself, her body, her past. The language is very poetic, with metaphors that are touching, specially her comparison of her body & it's debilitation to the earth which she says is being ravaged by the cancer of human greed & exploitation.A very poignant, heart touching but brave...
