    Purple Hibiscus 01 Edition is a thrilling tale by debutant writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, which focusses on life in Nigeria as seen through the eyes of the young protagonist Kambili, who is fifteen years old.

    Summary Of The Book

    Purple Hibiscus is set in Nigeria at a time when the country was on a verge of a military takeover. Just before this takeover, the young protagonist, Kambili is shown in her house. She has been brought up under the strict guidance of her father, who is very religious, and rigorous. Kambili’s daily schedule comprises of strictly monitored prayer routines, along with a fixed study time.

    However, things take an unexpected turn when war breaks out in the country, and Kambili’s father is compelled to send his two children away from home. He sends Kambili, and her brother to live with their aunt, whose lifestyle is very different from theirs. Her aunt is a fun-loving person, and the atmosphere in her home brings about radical changes in Kambili’s life, causing her to enjoy life and love. Kambili, in her father’s house, never experienced these things in their true sense.

    Purple Hibiscus focuses on the themes of freedom and life. The author has been successful in creating a story that is able to captivate the hearts, and minds of readers around the world. This debut work of the writer has been very successful in displaying her immense talent to the world.

    About Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

    Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a renowned author, hailing from Nigeria.

    Apart from this book, Adichie has published two other books, Half Of A Yellow Sun, and The Thing Around Your Neck.

    Adichie was born on the 15th of September, 1977, Enugu, spending a great deal of her childhood in Nsukka, South-East Nigeria. She attended the University Of Nigeria, studying Medicine and Pharmacy. Following that, she attended Drexel University, Philadelphia, completing her degree in communications, and political science. In the year 2003, she earned a postgraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University, in Creative Writing. The author began her literary career by publishing a collection of poems in the year 1997. Through the course of her career, Adichie has won a number of awards for her literary works. Some of the awards received by the author include Orange Prize For Fiction,

    Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, and O. Henry Prize. Adichie currently conducts writing workshops in Nigeria.

    Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been very successful for creating such a debut novel which has varied taste of all kind of emotions.

    A no-nonsense, good read!

    The title, Purple Hibiscus, very much befits the crux of the tale and is indicative of the crossover of the meek children of a stickler perfectionist and a religiously fanatic father.     a new perspective
