    Button-Down Shirts - Style them Right

    If you cringe at the thought of wearing button-down shirts in the sizzling summer heat, we’re about to change your mindset. Men’s fashion has been changing quite often but it may be hard to notice as the variety is still restricted. Button-down shirts came into use from the practical need connected to sporting endeavours like horse riding. It’s not very difficult to pick a shirt that fits your physique, complexion, and character. But you need to put in some thought before buying a casual shirt. 

     

    The Fit Matters a Lot

    One of the most important things to remember is that casual shirts fit differently compared to dress shirts. When you’re shopping for a casual summer shirt, you should start by looking for something with a looser and more relaxed fit. The reason for the looser fit is that you don’t want to have any “hot spots”. If it isn’t that cold and you won’t be wearing a jacket, it is crucial to pick a shirt that sits well on your shoulders and doesn’t have excess fabric in the chest area.        

     

    Light and Breathable Fabric 

    Choice of fabric plays a role in how comfortable you feel. If you have trouble pushing air out through the fabric, then it’s probably not breathable. You should also never assume that a lightweight fabric is automatically breathable.    

     

    Style of the Button-down Shirt 

    Certain styles give off a more casual feel to any shirt. A great example of this is pockets. A shirt with two pockets up front is a detail that was actually borrowed from the military. Generally, pockets found in shirts, be it on the chest area, or even on the sleeves, denote a casual look, so they’re perfect for casual summer shirts. 

     

    Length of the Shirt 

    If you’ve found the perfect shirt but it’s a little too long, hold on to it. You can take it to a tailor and get the length altered. Finding a shirt perfect in every other way except for the length is alright as the fit matters more than the length.     

     

    Collar and Buttons 

    Even if you’re wearing a casual shirt, it is important to make sure that the collar looks good and lays well. For casual shirts, it is perfectly acceptable for the top two buttons to be left unbuttoned.  

    The button-down collar is casual by nature and if paired with a tie, a casual suit or blazer, it will elevate your smart and casual look. It is rare to see button-down shirts paired with formal suits and it's also a little out of style but style is what you think looks amazing on you. Bus this also doesn’t mean everyone can pull off a purple or an orange tuxedo.
