    Selected and edited by Oxford University Press and Visva-Bharati, the selected short stories in this edition comprise many of Tagore’s popular short stories.

    This rich treasure house of writings includes The Ghat's Story, A Fanciful Story Grandfather, The Unapproved Story, The Golden Deer, A Single Night, The Living And The Dead among others.

    Many of the stories are a reflection of the lives of the modern men and women. In many of the tales we can see a blend of imagination and reality. The religion, rituals and conventions of the Hindu society are also explored.

    The other stories like Ramkanai's Folly, The Laboratory, The Wedding Garland, The Royal Mark, Folly, Hungry Stone, House Number One delve into the varied facets of human beings. Selected Short Stories by Tagore also explores the many emotions and psyche of the many characters.

    The stories have a typical Indian flavor. All the works are characterized by high powers of imagination and expression and they reveal Tagore’s artistry of the literary imaginations.

    Published in 2001, Selected Short Stories unveils Tagore’s practical view of the world. This edition has been popular with readers for its remarkable translation by Sukanta Chaudhuri. Selected Short Stories is the first title of The Oxford Tagore project among others like Selected Poems, Selected Letters and Selected Writings On Literature And Language.

    About Rabindranath Tagore

    Rabindranath Tagore, India’s first Nobel Laureate was a myriad minded man. His impressive and expansive body of work has won him a permanent place in the hearts of many around the world.

    His humanistic essence combined with romanticism and mysticism has earned him the highest place among the writers of the world.

    Some of his best known works include The Home And The World, Gora, Gitanjali, Rabindra Sangeet and Bhanusimha. He has also composed the national anthems of India and Bangladesh.

    Born and brought up in India, Tagore has left behind a vast canon of literary works, paintings and songs. He has even contributed significantly to the Bengal Renaissance movement and is the founder of the Visva-Bharati University.

    The book is the most beautiful collection of tagore's stories. I had been looking for a good translation for a long time and this book is the answer. I haven't found a better translation yet.the book also has clarifications/endnotes/background and other perk which make the reading wholesome

    Have ordered several items from Flipkart earlier but never faced such awful service.     The most beautiful book I have ever read.

    Always wanted to read a Rabindranath Tagore book but never found a good translation untill this one. I love this book, its one of the few I will read over and over again.

    The stories transport you to another world and the translation in English is excellent.

    The introduction too is very informative.
