Ram Rajya. The Perfect Land. But perfection has a price. He paid that price.

    3400 BCE. INDIA

Ayodhya is weakened by divisions. A terrible war has taken its toll. The damage runs deep. The demon King of Lanka, Raavan, does not impose his rule on the defeated. He, instead, imposes his trade. Money is sucked out of the empire. The Sapt Sindhu people descend into poverty, despondency and corruption. They cry for a leader to lead them out of the morass. Little do they appreciate that the leader is among them. One whom they know. A tortured and ostracised prince. A prince they tried to break. A prince called Ram.

He loves his country, even when his countrymen torment him. He stands alone for the law. His band of brothers, his Sita, and he, against the darkness of chaos.

Will Ram rise above the taint that others heap on him? Will his love for Sita sustain him through his struggle? Will he defeat the demon Lord Raavan who destroyed his childhood? Will he fulfil the destiny of the Vishnu?

Begin an epic journey with Amish's latest: the Ram Chandra Series. >br/>

    An enjoyable read

It is not every other day that I sit late at night reading a novel. As distracted as I am, I prefer reading books in installments. But Amish's Scion of Ikshvaku (Book 1 of the Ram Chandra Series) was an exception.

The first thought on reading the initial pages was the similarity in writing style to the Shiva Trilogy. Amish is one of my favourite Indian authors for two reasons:- The theme, which is always based on ancient Indian history (I deliberately avoid the term "mythology" because I do ...

    An enthraling experience !

Amish did it again. He proved that we all have that ability to become god provided we are willing to give up the required sacrifice.

Scion Of Ikshvaku - A Review [Good and Not so Good]

My first reaction: Did I just re-read Immortals of Meluha with new characters?

    GOOD PARTS:
Amish attempted to show that Gods are mere mortals who ascended the pedestal of human reverence for their virtues.

Gods are not above flaws, but they restrict their flaws.

Gods too have humour, frustrations and anger. Gods seem to realize the fine line between valour and craziness/stupidity.

Amish made mythology interesting to read albeit through a very different view point.

    He made references to...

Don't buy products from this seller

The book was clearly a pirated version. Poor quality paper and binding was coming off. This seller is offering lowest price because of substandard quality. Even buying from a certified buyer at flipkart was a rip off. It has never happened before.

Do it right or don't do it at all. No half way.

The book as expected is a fresh take on Ramayana. The beloved son of Ayodhya is considered a bad omen. You can see where this is going. As a story Mr. Tripathi does a good job, but when are claiming that this is a re-interpretation of the epic, you have fallen flat on your face. No justice done to the source material (Valmiki's Ramayana).

In summary, the author could have used his money and paper (actual paper in the book) on research and more pondering than using it for media marketing.

    Below average

A very bad mix of mythology and fiction. The author seems to be more affected by whats happening currently in society and included it in the novel citing it as a way of life at that point of time. Ex is Nirbhaya rape case of delhi and a fellow acquitted because he was minor. The event was presented in novel citing as one of the event happened at that point of time. The novel is neither mythological nor fictional. I was surprised to read the reviews given at the beginning of the book. I am sur...

very bad print and paper quality. was not expecting this from flipkart. Maybe the sellers with whom flipkart is tying up are not properly verified by them.

    Power packed beginning

The first book was really something with amish in his old narrative style.
The only cons I found are:
    1) Couple of spelling mistakes in the first few chapters.
    2) Use of very modern languages like touche and some others.

Apart from the cons it is a very good book and is almost like a film going on. Very much recommended to all who wants to read the old mythological stories with new interpretation and in the mean time have the same thrill as we are used to from amish.
    Will be waiting for it...

Not as impressive as the trilogy

If you have read Trilogy - you will NOT find this read gripping. The story moves on loosely and at times seems Amish is trying too hard to fit in logic to mythology. Was disappointed but will still give a shot to the next volume before calling it a day..
