Surviving in a world where there is uncertainty, dishonesty and plain hatred takes strength. One mention of money and friends turn into enemies in a matter of seconds. In this chaos, what if you are hunted by authorities, pushed away from your own family and back-stabbed by your own gang members? Welcome to the early 1900’s and the world of Red Dead Redemption.
The spiritual successor to the game Red Dead Revolver, Red Dead Redemption brings back a lot of action packed gaming to your console. Targeted towards causal as well as hard-core gamers, Red Dead Redemption is for anyone who wants to spend time exploring the history made in 1900 America.
The action-adventure video game has an open world environment that offers you a wide landscape to explore, allowing you to play the game as you want. Red Dead Redemption is available for the PS3 platform and has a Mature rating from ESRB.
Synopsis and Features
In Red Dead Redemption you, John Marston, are a former outlaw who has gone straight; but it isn’t that easy. The people who you once thought were friends, have now turned into vile enemies and rubbed off the authorities on the wrong side. This has made the authorities turn their eye on you. Your son and wife are taken hostage by the government. The only way to release them is to find your old gang members and bring them to justice.
Developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games, Red Dead Redemption follows a story of survival in early America. The single player campaign takes John Marston from the borders of US to Mexico. You, as John Marston, will work odd jobs, win the faith of the locales and try to find out where your old gang members are hiding.
The story progresses as you successfully complete each mission. The good thing about this game is its open world environment that allows you to do the mission you wish, eliminating you from the confines of a level based gameplay. Not many games can pull out exciting side-missions, but that is not the case with Red Dead Redemption. The side-missions in this game include tracking down outlaws for bounty, treasure hunting, sharpshooting challenges, locating bandit hideouts and much more. The side missions are so long and elaborate that they sometimes even form a part of the main story.
The game follows a morality system that allows you to gain honor upon the deeds that you do. The honor can be positive or negative, depending upon your work. The honor you have affects your ability towards interacting with lawmen and civilians. The game also features Fame. You can collect Fame as you complete jobs. The more famous you become the more beneficial it is for you, but it is also a doubled edged sword.
If you start getting famous, gunslingers will come to your city and try to take you out of the picture. This invites you to a duel with them called Dead-Eye. Dead-Eye is a great feature where you have to defeat the person who has dared you for a duel. You can do it by either killing him or you can knock the gun out of his hand, keeping him alive. Defeating your enemy without killing him will provide you with even more fame and make you more dangerous, and in a land like the Red Dead you could use it.
There are plenty of weapons to choose from. These include revolvers, pistols, bolt-action rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, knives, explosives and lassos. Transportation includes different breeds of horses. Gamers who like games like GTA will love Red Dead Redemption. The animations in the game have been superbly crafted, providing you with a lovely game atmosphere.
Red Dead Redemption features cooperative and competitive multiplayer that allows up to 16 players to play the game simultaneously. The game follows a reward system where you can level up once you have completed weapon challenges. This enables you to unlock a plethora of options such as new character models, golden weapon skins, new titles, and new mount breeds.
The game modes for the multiplayer include free for all, shoot out, gold rush, gang matches, free roam and many more. The game has enough multiplayer to keep you hooked onto your PS3 for hours. The DLCs for the game include Outlaws to the End, Legends and Killers Pack, Free Roam Pack and an expansion pack called Undead Nightmare. All the DLCs add something new to the game such as new modes, challenges, and hideouts. You can download updates and DLC’s from the PSN network.
