Redrawing India, by Kovid Gupta and Shaheen Mistri, chronicles the Teach for India story.
Summary of the Book
Eighteen-year-old Shaheen Mistri, having grown up in different parts of the world, spends the summer in Mumbai. She happens to wander into the Ambedkar Nagar slum community. She meets Pinky, who becomes the first of the thousands of children whose lives she will touch on her journey eventually. Redrawing India contains stirring, compelling stories of the deprived children of India, the cruel realities they face, and the hope and love that will propel them into being the future generation of leaders. It is a story of the power of personal reflection that makes us ask what kind of life we want to live. And in answer are the personal stories of numerous 'Teach for India’ staff, India’s best and brightest, who have shown that each and every one of us can work collectively towards the day when every child will have the opportunity to receive education.
