Good Book to Understand what truly is IAS has to offer

I liked the book it has provieded me insight into what is IAS ?
What will you face in the Job?
Proper benefits and cons of the IAS?
How are honest officers are treated in IAS?
It was shocking to see what happened with such talented IAS officer like Robin Gupta.
But in the end it seems good that only because these types of civil servants that our country is still one after 66 years of independance

Self congratulatiory account of a desultory bureaucrat!

Although I guess while reviewing the book the message behind the book should not be the only criteria, but I guess after just crossing half way through this book, one cannot help being queasy and slightly angered.
The writing style is reasonably ok, but the way the author tries to potray himself as an elite, with a natural proclivity towards "finer things" in life, by unneccesary trying to highlight his family's connections with the British elite, his mother's liking for all things Non-Indian...

what remains in the end is an elitist ias with his glass of whisky

in many instances throughout the book it is clear how ignorant gupta had been to local issues and how often he would frequent clubs and the rich instead of focussing on grassroot realities. he looks upon ias from underprivileged backgrounds to be infe...

Somewhat short of expectations

The book is a really good effort and it does offer great insight into the workings of the Indian bureaucracy and is well worth a read for that. The only grudge against it would be that it fails to retain the pace towards the end.
