An interesting collection of 21 short stories.

Ideally speaking one should be compelled to buy this book after reading names like Saadat Hasan Manto, Premchand, Nabendu Ghosh, Ismat Chughtai (to name a few) attached with it. Book contains 21 stories written in 12 different languages which have been translated to English by yet another panel of distinguished translators.

A MUST READ !!!

As I start reading the novel, I go through the preface. I know there and then that this book is going to be a hard hitting one. And so with each story I read, I simply grope on to the next one, wanting to discover one more aspect of prostitution in India.

Frankly speaking I have never read anything like this before, even I was aware of this term Prostitute and human trafficking. When so called developed people feel evil while pronouncing this word only… It stirred my soul...

Read, read, read.

The River of Flesh and other Stories, is an anthology of twenty one short stories edited by Ruchira Gupta. What is unique about this collection is the diversity in terms of the stories and the different languages they are written in. Though the anthology borrows its title from Kamleshwar’s short story of the same name, stories from as many as twelve languages and authors as diverse as Premchand, Manto, Bibhutibhusan contribute their individual tales of the prostituted woman and it is this tha...
