Street life in Bombay is definitely not a bed of roses. Salaam Bombay (1988), directed by Mira Nair, delves into the life of Krishna, who sells tea by working for Chacha, a street bar owner. Krishna is left behind by his mother who demands 500 rupees, in order to return home as he’s messed up his brother's bicycle. Life goes on as Krishna has his own share of fun with a set of friends along with several other kids with interesting backgrounds. However, Krishna must save 500 rupees in order to return home and the harsh street life teaches him a thing or two about the value of every rupee he earns. Starring Raghubir Yadav, Aneeta Kanwar, Shafiq Syed and Hansa Vithal, Salaam Bombay is an interesting blend of crime and drama.
