Description

Sandman: Preludes and Nocturnes is the first volume in Neil Gaiman’s stunning graphic novel series. This book begins the epic fantasy story that launched Neil Gaiman’s career.

Summary of the Book

When a dark magician tries to gain immortality by summoning Death, he makes a big mistake. Instead, he summons Death’s younger brother, Dream. The magician fears that he will have to pay a price for his blasphemy, so he imprisons Dream and takes away his totems of power. Years later, Morpheus, the being known as Dream, manages to escape, damning his captor to an eternal sleep filled with nightmares. Now free, Dream returns to his world, and he begins hunting down his totems. He needs to track down those who pilfered them and make them pay for their betrayal. The world has changed in his absence and he must regain control over his realm, or the balance of the universe will be at stake. Dream is depressed at his loss of control, but he is not alone in his consolation. His elder sister comes to talk him out of his depression, and she talks of the changes in the world in the decades of his absence. However, how would a person feel about life when Death is his older sister?

Absolutely brilliant

I had heard a lot about Sandman, but hadn't had the chance to read any. This book is worth being called literature, although not in the conventional sense. The only drawback is that this graphic novel ends rather quickly when you sit for a serious reading :) I suggest this for any comic or alternate literature enthusiast!

Brilliant ordering and shipping service from WS Retail and Flipkart, as usual. Kudos to you guys.

Brilliant

Neil Gaiman creates an immersible universe and takes us on a magnificent ride.
You will want to get hold of next volume as soon as this one is finished.
Dream is unlike any protagonist we have seen before. And that's all I will say about him and will leave you to discover more.

As for the book, the condition was good and so was the packaging. The binding is ok.
The pages are glossy and this version is recoloured edition.

A piece of pure art!!

This graphic novel is considered among the holy trinity of comic universe and for all the right reasons...Unlike TDKR and Watchmen..this book is a piece of pure art..the stories are so intriguing and compelling that once you are finished, your mind will not be the same....the plot is not too great but what differs it from the other two is the concept....If you haven't read Sandman....don't call yourself a comic enthusiast...Read this before you die....\m/

Absolutely Unputdownable

Brilliantly drawn with a great storywork by Nei Gaiman, this is one unputdownable graphic novel. There are details hidden in many panels that you would realize in retrospect, after you have read through a story arc. This was my first foray into Neil Gaiman, and rest assured this will not be my last!

Awesome graphic novel for casual readers trying to get a more serious intro to the medium

Calling this book a comic would be a great injustice to the author. This is a really good graphic novel with a very fresh and original story. If you, like me, have been casually reading graphic novels on and off, and are hesitant about investing in a book with an unknown storyline or characters, buy this right now. You will not regret it. And its the good kind of paperback, with glossy pages, so that's nice.

Truly fantastic comic

Neil Gaiman has created an expansive world presided by the Endless. The book starts off as horror but eventually turns into fantasy and I must say, this is one of the best fantasy graphic novels I've read. Certain comics feel strange and poorly drawn but considering the story and the continuity Gaiman has implemented, this comes up as one of the best comics of all time.
