I was first skeptical about this book, but after buying it found my decision as good one. The book is a fast read and gives you enough to be up and running in Scala one around 1-2 weeks. Remaining detailed things can be explored as and when you encounter scenarios.

Would recommend it for any experienced programmer looking for a quick primer in Scala.

Good buy for me as I had previous experience with Java & J2EE.

This one is a no fluff Scala book. If you know how to program and want to learn about Scala this one is for you.
It sticks to what you need to know to write the language. It won't go into great depths about how the language could be used to do many things. The author sticks to getting you familiar with the language. There are no extra chapters on database, web frameworks etc.. which is nice since you can stick to the REPL and then learn away. The chapter on traits is nice, explains the concep...

This book is apt for Java developers who have some programming experience and who wish to learn Scala in short time span. Chapters are fast and breezy with crisp and concise examples and explanations. This book should be read along with the Scala REPL or an IDE, because the book is so fast that you might tend to miss few concepts.

Overall, this book is worth more than the price paid for it.

Book for programmers to get running with scala.
Get up and running with scala ASAP. This book doesnt insult your knowledge by teaching you extreme basics.

Highly recommended.

This books covers more of the scala syntax, I was looking for more around the concepts in scala, and its comparisons with object oriented language.

If you are already into a Scala project and want to quickly learn Scala, this is the book for you.

Chapters are small and have enough examples.

Note : As the book is intended, you should be familiar with Java or C++. If you are new to programming, please don't complain about the book.
