The foot file comes with batteries and the file head attached and is usable right out of the box. Usage is pretty easy and intuitive. Results are pretty good - almost salon like. I would still go for a pedicure once a month or so but keep using this once a week to keep my feet smooth. Loved the fact that the file head is removable and washable. The rest of the tool can be wiped with a tissue (dry or wet) to keep it clean. Looks costly but the head is replacable so worth it :)

Having used this product for the last few days, here is my review.

First, this thing is NOISY. The noise is similar to the polishing machines that are used to smooth and cut granite stones. Not as noisy as that, but you cannot use this while watching TV.

Second, the file is comparable to the 'finishing' file on a manual foot scraper, the one you use after using the 'rough' file. If you have real cracks on your feet, then Dr. Scholl's velvet smooth is going to take hours and hours to mak...
