  • Description

Sir Winston S. Churchill writes about the single most catastrophic event of the twentieth century, The Second World War, in this highly personal and detailed account of the events of the war.

    Summary of the Book

Winston Churchill’s eloquence on the topic of the Second World War stems from a largely personal factor: he was one of the few people who had witness both of the two great cataclysms of the twentieth century. In his six-volume account of the War, he revealed the events that led to it, and the events that took place during it. He dedicated many years of his life into the writing of that work, and this book is an abridgement of the original edition. It presents sections of the six-volume work, outlining the events of the war and its effects on the world. Here, Churchill reveals the various stages of the war, and he shows how the Allies ploughed through despite crippling odds to win the freedom that the world deserved. He shows how the Nazis were outmanoeuvred and how the war’s incompletion led to the Cold War, another ugly legacy of the twentieth century. His words carry the weight of a man who has witnessed supreme loss and who has been forced to make decisions which associated him with Machiavellian agendas for years to come. This masterpiece is one of the greatest works on the Second World War and if anything, the abridged version gives readers a snapshot of the man’s genius and his authority in writing a work of this magnitude.
