This is an amazing travelogue. A story of escape from a POW camp. This Austrian/ German mountaineer had but one wish - to enter Tibet and see the "Forbidden City". Against all odds and facing the harshest of weathers and harshest of terrains the author and his friend dodge the friendly but not so open Tibetians and reach the heart of Tibet and find a place in the hearts of the Tibetians !

This is one of the best travelogues I have read ,Books of travelogue & expedition leaves the reader with thrilling experiences probably because of the reality.

A must read book.....the way it follows the adventurous track through Tibet is awesome....The Insights given with respect to transition of Tibet from its age old practices is really heart touching one...It really fills respect in your heart to his Holiness Dalai lama......

Journey of a man from India to Lhasa. This books unfolds the life of Tibetian people, which is quite interesting and how he became friend with young dalai lama.
I can only say that ........Amazing !!!!!

the book is so different from the movie! a journey that one can only dream of. hats off to late Mr. Harrer for providing the world with the view of a place that we might never see the way it used to be. Hope good sense prevails on all sides and the people of Tibet finally get to see the Lhasa of their dreams!
