Shadow Princess .. an interesting read

This is the first book I've read about the life of a Mogul Princess. Considering the paucity of material that must have been available, Indu Sundaresan has done a good job in presenting whatever is known about Princess Jahanara in a style similar to Alex Rutherford and comes pretty close to finding the goal post.

The book is well researched and starts off by giving the reader a background into the Princess Jahanara. Men might find the first-half a bit boring (I did) but it picks up steam an...

Excellent

Awesome historical fiction.

Would have never know the strong & soft side of Jahanaara's personality.
The unconditional love & loyalty of Aurangazed towards Jahanaara is an eye opener towards a king so famous for his brutal act towards his brothers and insensitivity & disrespect towards his father.

One of the finest authors

How I marvel her style of telling the tales; it actually makes you feel part of the history. This book will take you to that part of history which witnessed creation of one of the wonders of the world. A very well written and gripping book, as it always is with Indu's work.
I can go back and read this book again..for sure.

A well researched historical fiction

A good read. The historical characters come alive in the pages. The research is impeccable and the narration gets the reader emotionally involved. At places it seems more of a historical narrative rather than a fiction. There is an abundance of description of historical monuments and places which sometimes plays spoilsport.

Shadow Princess

An extraordinarily well written account of the life of Jahanara, the Sister of Aurangzeb. The story based on historical fact very well embellished with fictional undertones gives a gripping account of palace intrigue and Mughal history. Sundaresan has brilliantly begun in true epic style in media res and continues her narrative i a way that makes the reader live the times and be part of the era.

Transported to a different era!

Indu Sundaresan has done extensive research on the period of Shahjehan's later years. Though the book fails to capture the whole of Jahanara's life, an interesting effort has been made to document most of it. Would have loved to know of the last 16 years of Jahanara's life in Aurangzeb's harem!! Yet I read avidly the details pertaining to the making of the Taj Mahal and of life in Mughal India.

the inspiration of the Taj

The story of Jahanara, emperor Shah Jehan's widely known daughter, the book depicts the story of Shah Jehan's reign with Jahan Ara as the central figure. Sunderasan, portrays the luxuries and the opulence of the court during the golden age of the mughal period as also, the intrigues and worries of the palace inmates. The contrasting characters of the two daughters of Shah Jehan, with Jahan Ara holding the household together is mesmerising. The planning and the brains behind the construction o...
