Based on an inspirational true story, Shahid is a Hindi biographical drama film that was directed by Hansal Mehta who won a National Film Award for his exceptional work in this movie. Co-produced by 3-time Filmfare Award-winner Anurag Kashyap, Shahid stars National Film Award-winner Rajkummar Rao, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Kay Kay Menon and Prabhleen Sandhu.

The storyline of this eye-opening film recounts the unfortunate yet intriguing tale of Shahid Azmi. Shahid, infuriated after witnessing the brutal Bombay Riots, makes his way to Pakistan-administered Kashmir where he joins a militant training camp for a short duration. However, once he returns to India, he is arrested for allegedly conspiring against a few politicians. After he is tortured into accepting the charges that were made against him, Shahid serves a 7-year sentence in Tihar Jail, following which he gets a college degree and becomes an independent lawyer. Through the course of his career, Shahid becomes a human rights activist and defends innocent Muslims. However, not all good deeds pay off, sometimes, they only bring tragedy.
