Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects is a crime thriller for adults. It is about Camille who is a journalist with a troubling past. She is sent back to her hometown to report on murder crimes, and shockingly finds personal connection to those cases.

Summary of the book

Camille Preaker is a young journalist who moves to Chicago for a better life. She comes from a dysfunctional family. Amma, who is a smart thirteen year old girl, is Camille’s half-sister. Adora is the mother who is strict and hers is the wealthiest family in the Wind Gap area. Camille is sent back to Wind Gap to report on two gory murders of young girls. When she submits her initial reports, her boss Curry asks her to remain in Wind Gap for further coverage on the murders. She agrees to it as Curry has been considerate to her through trying times, especially when she was hospitalized for self-harming attempt. Camille gets involved in a love relationship with Richard in the meanwhile and grows fond of her sister Amma. The story continues with Camille’s shocking findings about the suspects. It is also about how closely they are connected to her personal life. Sharp Objects has won the New Blood Fiction Dagger and the Ian Fleming Steel Dagger, both from the Crime Writers’ Association.
