Description

When cruel fate in the form of an outlaw takes the lives of a sincere police officer's family, all he has left to exact in his life is revenge. Directed by Ramesh Sippy and starring Bollywood greats such as Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Hema Malini, Sholay is an epic action adventure comedy film that is considered an Indian film classic. One of the highest grossing films in Indian cinema history, the plot of Sholay follows an ex-police officer who hires two criminals in order to capture the bandit responsible for the death of his family. This film was placed first in the British Film Institute’s 2002 poll which sought to rank the Top 10 Indian Films.

still expecting good quality...

i've purchased dvd of pen co.expecting for a anamorphic widescreen presentation as the co. just before released dvd of Shaan in widescreen format.but the movie didn't come in widescreen.quality is also not very high.soundtrack is not in stereo,though the movie was india's first 70mm movie with 6 Track stereophonic sound system.the rating given by me is for the dvd and not for the movie.its pity that one of the greatest movie of and pride of indian cinema has no good quality dvd in the market...

Not so remasterted

This review is not about the movie (it doesn't need one), but about the quality of DVD. Quality is better than a VCD, but its not fully mastered. On scenes with objects moving fast or camera angle changing fast, you can clearly see wide pixels. And it does not cover full width of screen on laptop, forget TV. Not upto the mark.

Detailed review of the PEN edition

The words "NEW DIGITAL RE-MASTER" are just gimmicky terms. Mean nothing in the Indian home video industry!
Like any other version of the film, this is an uncleaned, "non" re-mastered transfer. I would rank it among the poorest quality editions of the movie. Ideally they should have taken a cleaned up print to master their DVD, then perhaps the tag would've held some meaning.

The video quality is not very good. It has a lot of dirt, scratches and wear-and-tear. But overall, is pretty colorful...

Hey I purchased the Sholay DVD manufactured by PEN.
I would like to say the Audio quality was BAD,No Stereo Image.
After the pathetic Ultra Print of Sholay I purcahsed a pirated copy from bangalore DVd shop and Audio quality was amazing .I could feel the stereo image.Pic quality was OK.

I thought that after the review of PEN product I purchased through FLIPKART to my surprise the Audio quality was OK nothing great Mono format.

Iam really upset with this product.

Wish did not come true!

After Ultra's pathetic quality of Sholay DVD, I turned to Eros. That was better but again did not meet my expectations. Finally PEN India has come out with their version of the classic. It says EDS, and so we do have flashes of good, clear sound, which is a must for Sholay. However, I expected Anamorphic Widescreen presentation, which is sadly lacking. It has simple widescreen format (making the images look vertically compressed on a widescreen TV), which has to be zoomed in on a big screen; ...

Terrible product

Guys dnt buy this dvd as followed by other top most reviews this Dvd is cheap quality no anamorphic screen plus no 16 track channel recording as recorded.
This is supposed to be best film in terms of audio, video,
I saw this movie on Stargold HD n u knw wt after watchim on HD. Channel this Dvd is so pathethic

Although broadcast qulity cant be compared with such low quality dvd
If u wanna experiene sholey watch out on HD

DVD quality was way too low..

Hi, I love collecting film of all time. Sholay is one of those and it's top of my list always. I watch once a while from my personal collection. Here this review is low rated because of quality of DVDs not the quality of film. DVDs are way too low quality. I could not watch once because all sort of problem in DVD detection to running my player faced. I am suggesting to use you tube movies rather buying Indian DVDs. These are very low quality.
