I have been a Nikon D5100 user for the last 3 years and was looking for a general purpose travel lens with good optics. Nikkor counterpart was too expensive for me so I tried to compare Tamron and Sigma counterparts.

Reading the reviews online I found that Sigma has an edge over Tamron and hence I went with this lens.

Great for event photography.
Bad side : Little problem in calibration and u will get a small noise of something if you shake the lens a little.

Best side : Very good in low light and sharpness is pretty good. But definitely not exact as Nikon 50mm 1.8, Ideal for event photography. Thus it's a DX lens, so it's actual effective focal length range is great almost same as the full frame legend 24-70||2.8

After use of around 1year I really feeling it is worth it at this price range.

This is THE BEST possible lens in the 17-50 range. I am using this for over 4 months now. No complaints whatsoever. Yes it is not up to NIKKOR quality but then you are not paying the premium for that as well. If you are an enthusiast (more than a beginner) you should shun your low speed lens and go for this f/2.8 lens. It is simply worth it. The service from Flipkart as usual awesome.

The copy i received had major focus calibration (back focus) issue. I'm using Nikon D90 which does not have in-built focus correction facility, so i had to return the item.

During the testing, while i took photo using LiveView, it was crisp. In case if you have a camera which does have in-camera focus correction (like D7000 or D7100), you don't need a second thought. Just go for it.

Was looking for a constant aperture walkround lens for my nikon d5200.

My say...I am totally satisfied with the buy. Autofocus is pretty quick. In low light the autofocus hunts a bit but that is a common issue.

One drawback which i found was the picture was soft at the corners when shot at f/2.8 at 50mm. From f/4 onwards the picture was sharp throughtout the range.

I would recommend this lens to anyone upgrading from their kit lens.

I want to wait for sale at the time of purchasing this. but luckily somehow I purchased at that time as this lens is out of stock for Nikon. today first time I opened this and this really feel very premium & Top quality but quit heavier also .The focal ring is tight and not easy to rotate and not smooth as in other lenses. Good walk around lens

Quality of Image is definitely a lot better than kit lens. Constant f2.8 helps a lot in low light . Still haven't tested it full fledge. Will test and write review again
