The Silmarillion

I've held this book before. Felt it's heft. And though it is familiar to me, I can feel a fell wind begin to blow. For this is the beginning. The very beginning of it all. Where Sauron is, but a middling side kick. Where the Valar and the Maiar fall to the clarion call of battle against the darkest shadow of them all. Melkor stirs from Utumno and all the lands are held in thrall. But Arda is not lost yet. The Dwarfs and Elves are made and the flame of life and light flows through their veins....

A Stupendous, Fascinating and Amazing Book

If you are looking for the light-heartedness of the Hobbit or the Lord of the Rings, turn your head away from this. This book is EXTREMELY heavy. It is the history of the myths that dominate Arda (Middle-Earth). It has very difficult, archaic language. So, be warned.

BUT... if you can get past all this...

This book will be an amazing experience for you. I feel that the charm of this book is the extremely difficult language, the hard-to-remember names and the outlandish tales that it so cand...

The Silmarillion

The Silmarillion tells the story of the First Age of Middle-Earth. Although The Lord of the Rings is a story of the Third Age, it would be better to read The Lord of the Rings first. After reading The Lord of the Rings, you would be eager to learn about the many references to the First Age. The Silmarillion seems to be a little hard to read in the beginning, but when you go further, you can't put it down. It is an introduction to the many books edited by Christopher Tolkien. You must read thi...

For Tolkien Enthusiasts

This book amazed me by exposing Tolkien's imagination.
Admittedly the first few chapters are a little hard to stick to, but once you've crossed them, Tolkien will have you spell bound by the power of his imagination and by how much thought he has put into the making and history of his imaginary world.

If you have read and loved the Lord of the Rings, this book is a strong recommendations.

Amazing Book!! Just buy it!!

I am a big Tolkien fan and I feel that the Silmarillion is the finest of his works.

The story is not a conventional narrative but a collection of mythical tales interwoven around the fate of one household of elves and the legendary Silmaril jewels. It gives a background to several characters and races that have been featured in other more prominent works like the Hobbit & the Lord of the Rings

Everything in this book is par excellence. Even the cover is extremely classy.

A Mythology for Middle Earth

This is Tolkien's most famous posthumously published work, and has been revised and edited by his son to ensure continuity with The Lord of the Rings.

Tolkien uses all his creative genius to describe the early days of the creation of Arda, now lost to the memory of the characters that populate LotR. The book consists of five parts, each telling a part of a connected saga, but with gaps in between that are covered by broad introductory paragraphs.

A delight to read if you revel in complex pl...
