  • Description
May 2012. India is hit by a series of freak weather disturbances and startling epidemics that threaten to bring the country to its knees. At the same time, children are disappearing from the slums in the capital and nobody seems to care. Stumbling upon these strange and seemingly unrelated incidents, journalist Chandrasekhar, historian Meenakshi Pirzada and intelligence operative Syed Ali Hassan start upon a trail that leads them into the drawing rooms of Delhi’s glittering high society before reaching a terrifying climax in Bhutan, where they come face-to-face with a force of unspeakable power and evil. Bestselling author Aroon Raman’s third novel, Skyfire, is a heart-stopping thriller that will chill you to the bone. Praise for The Shadow Throne ‘A racy read … distinctly etched, the plot engaging and the writing taut’ Hindu Praise for The Treasure of Kafur ‘Another bestseller in the making’ New Indian Express

Great plot, let down by the writing!

Disclosure: I got it free as part of Flipkart's Blogger Review Programme and this review is more than a month late. Sorry, V and the good folks at Flipkart!

Freak localised weather disturbances are targeting Indian cities, and bringing with them disease and death.....acid rain, burning hot winds, rains carrying deadly viruses etc. No one can explain them, but the highest echelons of Indian intelligence know that these anomalies are man-made, and are, in fact, the ...

    Good choice

The story. A typical thriller as you might feel from the blurb, this novel is something that you would not even expect it to be. You can feel that from the beginning that this is not an average thriller that you would read on an everyday basis. The way the “freak weather disturbances” and the sightings that have been described in this book is something that I feel is what the author’s speciality. Being the first ever read of the author by me, this book didn’t disappoint me at all. Is this eve...

    A well written socio-political thriller

Skyfire is well researched and the intricate details about medicines, weather and other stuffs proves them beyond doubt. The terms really doesn’t confuse the readers as Arron Raman’s narrative does the explaining part better rather than reading in Wikipedia.

The neat narrative of the events unfolding one by one making the readers petrified of what is threatening the national security and the real status of the street urchins of Delhi makes the readers hold the book without even letting them ...

Disclaimer: I got this book as part of Flipkart Blogger Review Program.

It’s been long since I’ve read a thriller so this one was much anticipated. Skyfire by Aroon Raman isn’t your typical thriller. (or maybe it is- depends on the kind you’ve been reading).

The beginning of Skyfire seemed too Dan Brown-ish and then some. And then it seemed like a cliche out of all the “change society” movies. But then, the book picked up its pace. And t...

    Worth the money

Skyfire is the first book by Aroon Raman that I have read. His debut novel is 'The Shadow Throne' which gained a lot of appreciation. After this, I would definitely like to read his other works.
I really liked the concept which is unique and new; using weather manipulation as a destruction weapon. Two apparently unrelated incidents take place simultaneously both very disturbing. Story picks up pace in the first few pages only and keeps you glued to the book. However, after a point of time it ...

    Faulty but still good

Aroon Ramn's 3rd Novel - Skyfire is a fast paced, well plotted socio-political thriller which brings out the bad side of weather manipulation. It brings back the trio of journalist Chandrasekhar, historian Meenakshi Pirzada and intelligence officer Syed Ali Hassan from The Shadow Throne (Raman's debut) and it is indeed a pleasure to divulge more into the psyche's of the protagonist's.
Skyfire has its losing moment in the form of a climax which fails the buildup but that doesn't take away the...

Nicely written thriller misses on few important points!

It is not easy to write a fiction! And, it is certainly not easy to write a fiction thriller. Aroon Raman proves that he can, not once, but back again! Well chosen characters along with a rich language makes Skyfire a good read. Focuses on two most important issues that plague the world today: child trafficking and weather. The author beautifully combines these two issues into one neat fiction thriller. There are some obvious clues left in the book that makes it an easy guess as to who is the...

    Does the job

Skyfire is Aroon Raman's third book and my first. Even though this book has the same characters from his previous book, he gives enough background information on each every character so it's not a mandatory to read his previous works to begin this.

Skyfire, is another thriller set in India with some deadly threats like weather manipulation and child trafficking. Right from the word go, this book has enough surprises. The prologue sets up the book nicely and gives us a glimpse of what is abou...

    A good thriller

This was the first time i read Aroon and I wish i had read his previous thriller too. Not that the story in this one is any way related , but the way people come together and form a team is always interesting read. Aroon has a good hold on keeping his language simple , exciting and the scenes very much easy to follow. The theme for this thriller was a unique one and quite scary to imagine. But i felt that at places the plot was a little too stretched. Some times things did not add up as easi...
