  • Description

Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships, true to its name is a book that discusses the concept of social intelligence. Written by Daniel Goleman, the man who made ‘Emotional Intelligence’ a household term, this book explores the different ways in which people connect with each other and develop relationships. After his successful take on emotional intelligence, in this book, he digs into the latest research in the fields of brain science and biology. Goleman talks about how humans are naturally wired to connect with each other and live socially, and also states that virtues like altruism, cooperation, and empathy are built-in and can be channelled. He also presents the dark side of social intelligence, and explores the facets of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. The book explains how first impressions work and how people detect lies naturally. It also provides insights into emotional power and charisma, and how they work. The fundamental principle behind Goleman’s theory is the fact that each brain is connected to the other brains surrounding it.

Daniel Goleman is an American author, science journalist, and psychologist. He completed his Ph.D. at Harvard University, having previously attended the University Of California At Berkeley. His first book was based on his travels through Sri Lanka and India. He is well-known for his bestselling book Emotional Intelligence. Goleman has written over 10 books, covering topics like education, psychology, leadership, and science. His other famous books include Working with Emotional Intelligence, Destructive Emotions: A Scientific Dialogue With The Dalai Lama, Healing Emotions: Conversations with the Dalai Lama on Mindfulness, Emotions, and Health, and The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness Reprint Edition.
